Welcome to Yesler 2014

Yesler Terrace is a Seattle Housing Authority Public Housing community that is currently in the planning phase of a proposed redeveloped due to start in the next 3-5 years. Yesler Terrace is also an important and rich community in the heart of Seattle.

This on-line blog journal will observe a series of teen and young adult employment and skills development programs built around urban planning, design, architecture, and green careers coordinated to improve community education, and expand the reach of news about changes in the communities located at or near Yesler Terrace.

Changes happen everyday in Seattle. Buildings are built, roads are paved, people move around in cars, buses, and trains. Businesses open, close, relocate, and reopen again. New residents arrive from all corners of the globe, people move in, out, and around this city, we pass on, we are born as infants.

Who understands how all this happens? How do we find out how the city is altered, adjusted, transformed, rebuilt?

The city requires a system with people who are trained in urban planning, design, architecture, engineering, accounting, management, policy making, community building...and the list goes on, but sometimes the inhabitants of the city are forgotten and are not kept up to date on how these professionals and practictioners operate, coordinate, and make decisions....how to become one and succeed in those roles.

The city also needs new life to sustain it and that new life comes from exposure, training, education, and certification in those fields and youth are the future of the city.

Yesler2014 along with other programs around the country work to provide the future.
